There are many reasons why working with virtual reality (VR) is an exciting prospect. Maybe you are fascinated by the opportunity to create fantastic worlds that otherwise only exist in your imagination, or maybe you want to be a part of something that has the ability to generate powerful empathy and change the world for the better.

It may not always seem like it, but VR technology applications go far beyond movies or video games. Since the late 1980s, the vast majority of VR applications have been in medicine, psychological therapy, design and prototyping in manufacturing, among others; and designers — like you — play an indispensable part to make VR experiences successful and to keep pushing the boundaries of VR technology.

As a designer, you already have the power to change the world for the better. With VR technology, you can take this power to the next level. To design the best VR experiences possible, you need to learn its potential, master its language and unearth the unique opportunities VR offers.

The Interaction Design Foundation is proud to host a live Master Class webinar with VR pioneer Mel Slater. Join us on Thursday, 13 January 2022 at 4 PM UTC to learn how to use narratives and storytelling in VR to influence people’s behavior towards positive change.

What You’ll Learn

  • Main affordances in virtual reality, including: the illusion of presence, body ownership, agency, and copresence.
  • How and why VR is used in many other fields — besides video games.
  • How to leverage VR as a powerful tool for positive behavioral change.
  • How VR narratives can even tackle major global challenges, such as sexual harassment or racism.
  • and much, much more!

With a deeper understanding of VR technologies and their applications you’ll be able to design better experiences. According to Forbes, the augmented reality and virtual reality market for the retail industry alone is expected to cross $2,000 billion by 2027, witnessing a growth rate of 68.5% in just 7 years. Therefore, as a designer, harnessing these in-demand skills can be your key to a successful career.

Register for the Master Class webinar to avail this one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn first-hand from world-renowned VR expert Mel Slater.
